Also known as: Triple DES Triple DEA TDEA Triple Data Encryption Algorithm

3DES is a symmetric cipher which applies the DES cipher 3 times by encrypting, descrypting and then encrypting, either with 3 or 2 keys. It is a symmetric key block cipher, meaning that the same key is used to encrypt and decrypt data in fixed-length groups of bits called blocks.

3DES has been deprecated for more secure ciphers such as AES. However, many IPsec devices still support 3DES, as does VNS3.
